Singapore Academic Field Trip (Day-2)

Inside look at CIE’s journey to the top three universities in Singapore and Google Asia— Photos by CIE family

Day-2 (8 June 2017)

Visited Nanyang Technological University (NTU): According to QS Asia University Rankings 2017, NTU has been ranked the best university in the world under fifty years of age (#11 QS World University Rankings 2018). The NTU students introduced and explained facilities on campus and activities on campus life.

@Robotic Lab Researchers at NTU are developing a robot that consists of two arms capable of assembling an IKEA chair.

@Network Lab A Ph.D. student is developing a wearable device as a wireless gateway using multiple Raspberry Pi boards with Internet connectivity for a smart home system and the wearable device.

Visited National University of Singapore (NUS) in the afternoon: NUS is ranked consistently as one of the top universities in the world.

@Sensor-enhanced social-media (SeSaMe) Research Centre Researchers at the SeSaMe research center gave us the overview of the smart system Institute (SSI) and the SeSaMe research centre. The SSI consists of three international research centers: Keio-NUS CUTE Center (Connective Ubiquitous Technology and Embodiments), a collaboration between NUS and Keio University, Japan; The Next Search Centre (NUS-Tsinghua Extreme Search Center), a collaboration between NUS and Tsinghua University, China; and SeSaMe Centre (Sensored-Enhanced Social Media), a collaboration between NUS and Zhejiang University, China.

A vision of the SeSaMe research centre is “to enable the design of social cyber-physical systems to help tackle societal problems related to lifestyle and security”. Moreover, researchers at the SeSaMe research center demonstrate the current research projects and open discussion on the research.

After that, we had a walking tour and stopped at the NUS Center library. The staff of the NUS Central Library gave us a brief history and information of NUS and central library.

End of this day and go back to the hotel.
